A 25-year-veteran of newsrooms operated by the USA Today
Network, John W. Barry’s passion for writing and love of
music laid the groundwork for his book, Levon Helm:
Rock, Roll & Ramble—The Inside Story of the Man, the
Music and the Midnight Ramble. John grew up in Bardonia,
NY, is a proud graduate of Clarkstown South High School
and SUNY New Paltz and was ready to roll when the call
came from Levon to tell his story. The book’s foreword
was written by Ringo Starr.
Steven Bernstein has arranged music for films by Woody
Allen and Robert Altman, has had compositions
choreographed for the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater
and Twyla Tharp, and arranged Hal Wilner projects,
including an Apollo Theater performance featuring U2 and
the Sun Ra Arkestra. Bernstein was also an anchor of the
Levon Helm Band horn section and critical component of
the late Band drummer’s Midnight Ramble house concerts,
which drew sold-out crowds for years and inspired three
Grammy-winning albums.
